Employees with German language skills sought on the labour market

One of the most desired languages by employers in Poland and other countries is German. Germany is an economic powerhouse, and in addition, Poland is in fifth place among the trading partners of our western neighbours. The ability to speak other languages opens many doors to study abroad and, in addition, German at work is highly desirable in many companies.

Over the past decade, Poland has become one of the largest business process outsourcing / shared services (BPO / SSC) centers in Europe. With the right skill set, professionals can easily find a job with German language in Warsaw, Krakow, Lodz, Gdansk and Wroclaw.

Knowledge of English is treated by employers as a standard competency. On the other hand, few people know, but 3 out of 4 entrepreneurs investing in Poland are looking for employees with German language skills.

This mainly applies to industries such as accounting, industry, distribution and logistics. Companies are often willing to provide their employees with free language upgrades and organize group or individual German lessons in the office. Online German, offered by language schools and platforms, is also becoming increasingly popular, allowing employees to attend language classes regardless of location.

Every year, more and more companies, including German ones, are choosing to locate their subsidiaries in our country, and – according to reports and surveys – more than two-thirds of companies with German capital require employees to have advanced language skills. Often, therefore, being fluent or communicative in German, even without much work experience, opens the door to careers and high salaries for workers.

Why learn German? Advantages of speaking German.

People take up learning German for a wide variety of reasons. The ability to speak German will undoubtedly enrich any person’s professional portfolio. A language certificate usually comes with a salary increase. However, this is not the only reason to learn German. There are many advantages of speaking German.

Here’s another one of them:

1 Professional Life – German at work. Communicating with German-speaking professional partners using their native language leads to better relationships and thus more successful communication. This one, on the other hand, can put your career on a faster track.

2 German is the first or second language of nearly 125 million people. In Europe alone, it is the mother tongue of about 100 million people. In seven European countries – Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy and Liechtenstein – German is the official language of the entire country or any of the regions.

3 Poland and Germany have close economic relations. Germany is one of Poland’s most important trading partners and a major investor. More and more German companies are finding Poland an attractive place to invest and are setting up their businesses here. Knowledge of the German language can greatly enhance career opportunities. Germany has a shortage of highly skilled IT professionals, doctors, nurses and specialists. So, knowing German, Polish professionals have a real chance of finding work in this country.

4 Communication. Developments in the field of media and communication and information technology make it necessary to communicate in multiple languages. After English, German is the most common language on the Internet. Many websites are in German. Germany is at 5. place in the world in terms of the number of books published. Higher in the ranking are only the United States, the United Kingdom, China and Russia. Knowledge of the German language, therefore, allows us to continuously and effectively expand our knowledge based on these publications.

5 German language in tourism. In the days before the pandemic, tourists from German-speaking countries travelled a lot to different places on Earth. They also spent more money during their vacation than tourists from other countries. They were eager to spend their free time with staff or guides who are fluent in their native language. It is uncertain these days whether the ability to travel will return to pre-pandemic levels, but certainly, the German language will be useful for communicating with tourists.

6 Intercultural understanding. Learning German provides a kind of insight into the lives and dreams of people living in German-speaking countries with all their multiculturalism.

German is certainly more difficult than English, but it is also more desirable on the job market. Fewer people are wielding it. A lot of Germany are investing their capital in Poland and are looking for employees who are comfortable in German-speaking job.
